Welfs and Hohenstaufen at Lake Constance

The Welfs were the opponents of the Hohenstaufen family. Their origin is at Altdorf, which is today called Weingarten. Before moving to the Castle of Ravensburg they were located at the Martinsberg, where today the Basilica of Weingarten with the tomb of the Welfs is situated.

Ravensburg became a town under the Welfs and their Hohenstaufen successors. We shall present the medieval towns of Ravensburg and Weingarten.

With the Waldburg Family we shall write about one of the most important ministerial families of the Staufer. The Waldburg castle has been restored recently. We shall present the materials of the museum.

At Constance, Frederick Barbarossa and the Lombard League made peace. The Bishop of Constance let Frederick II. enter the city. We shall present what remembers of this event even now.

Last we shall report about medieval Rome from our trip to this most important medieval town.

The Scuola Media Statale "Giuseppe Garibaldi" will contribute to the project writing about the medieval Italian school of law at Bologna where Justinian`s works were studied. Emperor Frederick I Barbarossa took the advice of lawyers from Bologna concerning his Italian policy.
